About me

Family legend has it that, when my Aunty Jo asked me, aged 5, what I wanted to be when I grew up, I raised my chin and replied proudly “I want to be a business woman”.

Well, I have certainly achieved that, albeit via an eclectic series of career experiences. My working life started in hospitality and my first entrepreneurial venture was a restaurant in the Yarra Valley. Let’s just say that period taught me a great deal about resilience.

After that, I side-stepped into the hospitality sales arena with Entertainment Publications. And, during my tenure there, I plunged myself into technology by establishing a new e-commerce accommodation sales channel within the legacy business – this was at a time when e-commerce was in its infancy and most Australian’s were scared of online shopping.

My newfound passion for technology led me to quit my secure, well-paid job and jumped into the unknown and fraught world of the tech start-up! I had a ball founding our little company, negotiating an advantageous merger and getting ready for a pre-IPO. Unfortunately, this experience led to another valuable life lesson … time for a rethink.

Pivoting, I began to pursue an interest in governance. Working with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency gave me an eye-opening intro into the inner workings of boards and committees. Women on Boards gave me the confidence and tools to launch my own governance career.

Craving to leap-frog back into private enterprise, I undertook my Senior Executive MBA, which led me to Hub Australia. With strategic oversight of HR and Technology, I was in my zone. My proudest moment was when Hub was recognised as a Great Place To Work, ranked 15th on Australia’s 50 Best Places To Work list (under 100 employees) in August 2019!

If you’re interested to read about my rich and varied career experiences, you can read all about it in My Story: An unconventional career. That article was written in March 2020 and I had bold aspirations to help shape Australia’s technology economy.

These aspirations drove me to secure an executive role at the forefront of technology and innovation in Australia, and I successfully launched a career in the space sector by joining the Australian Space Agency in 2021.

That manoeuvre set my career on an exciting new orbital path and subsequently enabled me to execute the career equivalent of a Hohmann transfer orbit: I am now establishing the Australian operations of Lunar Outpost Oceania – we’re building a rover to go to the Moon!

To compliment my executive career, I am also on a mission to join a government or technology industry advisory committee which influences public and corporate policy around ethical, legal, regulatory and standards issues … this is still a work in progress, but watch this space!
